To help ensure longevity, here are some tips for caring for your Pencil + Saw items:

Wood: All items have been finished with natural oils and waxes prior to shipping. Because wood is a natural material, it is influenced by its environment. Wood placed in direct sunlight (UV light) consistently or for long periods of time may show signs of color shifts. Those items which do not come into contact with food have been finished with a Danish oil and wax. A light amount of natural paste wax can be applied with a soft cloth, if needed, after time.

Metal: Many of the items have hand-polished, solid brass details. As a result of environmental oxidation and natural oils from our hands, all metals can develop a natural patina over time. For some, this is a natural enhancement. If you wish to maintain the original finish, you may choose to periodically buff the metal with a polishing cloth.

Food Safety: If you have purchased an item that will be in contact with food, be assured that prior to receiving your item it has been treated with a food safe mineral oil and beeswax. To continue to maintain the integrity of the wood, I recommend cleaning it with a mild soap and immediately drying it. You should never submerge the item or allow the wood to soak in water or other liquids: this will negatively impact the integrity of the wood. In addition, you may consider periodically applying a conditioner of mineral oil and beeswax. This is available in liquid form in many hardware stores or online and is easy to apply. I recommend Howard Butcher Block Conditioner.
